Cookies & browser storage
Updated October 5, 2026
Login and analytics are separate
Necessary cookies maintain your sign-in session. Allowing analytics doesn’t sign you in, extend the session or accept our terms. Rejecting optional analytics won’t affect the quiz or login. Your login provider’s session rules and your browser determine when you need to sign in again.
Storage used for the features you request
- Sign-in: Clerk uses authentication and security cookies. Their lifetimes vary by cookie and session configuration; signing out ends your active session.
- Quiz progress: a draft in this tab’s session storage can be resumed within 24 hours. It normally disappears when the browsing session ends; the time limit does not mean a background process immediately deletes it.
- Results and preferences: local storage keeps your current result, up to 12 recent results, language, public nickname and tutorial state. These have no automatic expiry in the app and remain until replaced or cleared. Signed-in results may be sent to our account API for syncing.
- Invitations and sync: browser identifiers and guest invitation keys support linking your own results, protecting guest invitations and avoiding duplicates. Some guest request records are reused for up to 30 days. These functional identifiers are separate from optional analytics.
Optional first-party analytics
Analytics are off until you choose Allow analytics. We collect limited page categories, quiz steps and song/scenario reactions, completion, sharing actions and categorized technical issues to improve the experience. Reports cover consenting visits only and cannot tell us how every visitor behaves.
Events go to Music Taste Match’s own endpoint and database. A random session identifier lasts at most 30 minutes and is not linked to your account or functional browser identifier. Analytics records exclude email, name, account ID, private invitation URLs, IP address, user-agent and free text. Our hosting and media providers still receive the connection information needed to serve requests.
Raw events are kept for no more than 30 days. Your allow/reject choice is stored in this browser for 180 days. You can withdraw in Cookie settings: future collection stops, queued events and this tab’s analytics session are discarded. Already-sent events expire under the retention policy; they are not indexed by your account.
Providers and clearing data
Clerk handles authentication, Neon stores application data and Vercel hosts the site. Apple serves audio previews and some artwork. Your chosen social sign-in provider also handles its own login flow. This is not advertising tracking.
Your browser’s site-data settings can clear cookies and local/session storage. This may sign you out, remove unsynced results and reset these privacy choices. It does not delete data already synced to your account. Use the account deletion flow for synced account data.
